David Carlson is a United States Marine Infantry Combat veteran who served three tours of duty in Iraq. He is running for the endorsement of the Republican Party of Minnesota in Senate District 38, serving the citizens of Eagan and Burnsville.  In 2008 David was the endorsed Republican for State House of Representatives in District 67B in East Saint Paul.

David was born in Saint Paul and grew up on its East Side, spending most weekends and summers at his grandparents' home in Eagan, near Thomas Lake.  He graduated from Johnson High School and continued his education at the University of Minnesota - Duluth (UM-D) and participated in the Marine Corps Officer Candidate Program.

During his time at UM-D, David majored in Political Science and minored in History. During David's freshman year, he won an internship working in Governor Jesse Ventura's administration working primarily in the Citizen Outreach Division. The following summer, David served under then Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer's office in the business services division where he heard many of the small business concerns from Minnesotans around the state. In his sophomore year he traveled to Lancaster University in the United Kingdom where he studied Foreign Relations and gained invaluable knowledge and world experience.  He was also the Head Varsity Women's basketball coach and played on the Men's Varsity basketball team.

Upon his return to Minnesota, Operation Iraqi Freedom was being implemented and combat operations had already begun in Iraq.  Having the pride of our community, state and nation, David withdrew from his courses at UM-D and the Marine Officer Program and enlisted in the Marine Corps Infantry. He was deployed to Iraq within a year of enlistment.  He had the honor and privilege of being part of an elite group of Marines providing protection for the Commanding General of the First Marine Division and subsequently the First Marine Expeditionary Force.  He participated in the Battles of Fallujah and Ramadi.  After being honorably discharged in August 2007, David continued his education at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities in Political Science.
David was raised in a single-parent home with his sister and observed the challenges that his mother faced daily in providing a good life for her children.  He learned at an early age about the value of hard work and dedication.
He fully understands the trials and tribulations facing our great communities and feels that the experiences in his life have better-prepared him for the privilege of helping to lead our district and state into a new era of economic prosperity.  He will bring a fresh, new voice to the State Senate, taking the lead as we move our state forward and out of an unfortunate current stagnant state of affairs.

David believes that what we need - especially now - is a State Senator who will provide an independent voice for the citizens of Eagan and Burnsville - not someone taking orders from the tax-and-spend crowd in Saint Paul.  It is clear that many of our current leaders on both sides have personal agendas and have lost focus on looking out for you and your family’s best interests, as well as the interests of the future generations of Minnesotans.

David hopes to earn your support and your vote in the primary election September 14, 2010 and also humbly asks for your vote in the general election in November 2, 2010.  It's time for a new voice and new representation to represent the people of Eagan and Burnsville!

Being a father of twin daughters, David feels a personal responsibility to do all he can to give his children and yours a better life. "It's all of our responsibility to pass on to our children the greatest America the world has ever seen." We can begin by electing David Carlson to the State Senate in 2010!

God Bless you and your family. May God continue to watch over and protect the United States of America.
