Dear Neighbors,
I have fond memories of growing up and going to stay weekends at my grandparents’ home in Eagan, while my mother worked double shifts as a registered nurse in the city. Since I was a small boy fishing with my grandfather at Thomas Lake, I have appreciated the many great qualities that have garnered the City of Eagan national prestige year after year, including being voted 12th “Best Place in the U.S. To Live” by Money magazine. In many ways our city has been a model for growing suburbs and cities across the state. Business Week rated Eagan the best place in Minnesota to raise a family. I am happy that my daughters will experience growing up in Eagan.
Being able to spend a good portion of my childhood in Eagan engrained an important lesson within me: hard work pays off, and, if you work hard, you can accomplish anything. I am proud to be a new resident of Eagan, and like so many of you, I have moved to Eagan from somewhere else in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. I grew up in the inner-city, East Saint Paul. Everywhere I go throughout our district, I meet great people who are going about their daily lives, doing the best they can to provide for their family and plan for their future. There is much concern throughout our state. Minnesota faces unprecedented challenges, and that calls for new leadership and ideas – a rejection of “politics-as-usual” with usual politicians.
Eagan boasts some of the most successful corporations in the world including Thomson-Reuters, Blue Cross / Blue Shield, United Parcel Service and Lockheed Martin. It is imperative for our city’s and state’s economic futures, that representatives of the people not further burden you and your family by taking more money off the kitchen table, away from your family’s budget, and away from saving and securing your family’s financial future well-being. While neighboring states deliberately lower taxes to entice Minnesota companies to relocate, our leaders should not be increasing the penalty for doing business in this state. With corporations with the likes of 3M and British Aerospace Engineering moving jobs away from Minnesota, and into states with lower business taxes, raising taxes on the job creators of this state will only make things worse and restrict the entrepreneurial spirit that has helped make our country great.
I encourage you to read through my site and contact me with any comments, questions or concerns that you may have. I am committed to meeting every voter in our district, eager to show you that I am the best person for this job and that I can bring a truly independent voice to our senate and our government. I want to represent all the hard-working people of Eagan and Burnsville. Enjoy!
Sincerely,
David J. Carlson
